The Guyana Defence Force Football Club (GDF FC) will not participate in the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield due to circumstances beyond their control and despite the intervention of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF).
This unfortunate development occurred yesterday as last-minute efforts were made to ensure the logistical challenges were addressed and passage cleared to enable their participation. The GDF received from CONCACAF a total of twelve thousand United States Dollars (USD $12,000) as subvention to offset costs related to air travel while the club was required to provide the remaining sum.
Unfortunately, the GDF has been unable to acquire the additional amount resulting in their non-participation in this tournament. Upon being informed of the situation yesterday, the GFF tried its utmost to intervene and resolve the issue through one of its partners but time did not allow for a speedy resolution of same as the team was scheduled to travel today.
”I, along with the Executive Committee, will be engaging the leadership of the GDF to determine the way forward for the club,” said GFF President, Wayne Forde, in an invited comment.
The GDF was selected to participate in the CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield scheduled for the Dominican Republic from April 12 – 21 by virtue of them being crowned champions of the GFF Elite League Season II.
