Kaieteur Sports – This Sunday morning (tomorrow) nine swimming clubs will invade the mining town of Linden to participate in the Linden Town Week Swim Meet, which has been organized by the Torpedo Swim Club at the Toucan Mall Pool in Amelia’s Ward.
Torpedo Swim Club’s Swim Director and coach, Ms. Mary Chung-Phillips, has indicated that presently eight along with hosts Torpedo of Linden, have signaled their intentions of contesting in the 72 events carded at the meet which starts at 9.30hrs.
However, the pool will be open 60 minutes prior to the meet and warm-up starts at 7:30 am.
The clubs which have already registered for this swim meet are Dolphin Speed Swim Club, Dorado Speed Swim Club, Orca Speed Swim Club, MAFRA Swim School, Mahdia Haimaras Swim Club, Sea Otters Swim Club, Silver Shark Aquatics Swim Club, Torpedo Swim Club and Trident Swim Academy.
The 25yds pool will accommodate 5 lanes of swimmers per event and manual timing will be used.
Age Groups are: Individual Events for 6 years & Under, 8 years & Under, 9 – 10, 11 – 12, 13 – 14, 15 – 17, 18 years & Over while the Relay Events and Open events are open to all swimmers.
The cut off age of a swimmer is December 31st 2025, to determine the age group in which the swimmer is eligible to swim.
COMPETITION RULES
World Aquatics rules will apply during this swim meet, unless noted otherwise. And for the format, there will be no Heats or Preliminaries.
According to the rules, swimmers from foreign countries must be sanctioned by their respective National Federations and be in good standing with their club and National Federation. Each participating team must present a “Letter of Good Standing” from their National Federation, sanctioning their participation.
For this meet which is being sanctioned by the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association, the special novice events cover four age groups, 6 years and Under, 8 and Under, 9-11, and 13 -14 both male and female. These participants are not competitive swimmers.
However, actual competition age for swimmers include 8 years and Under, 9 and 10, 11 and 13, 13 and 14, 15 – 17 and 28 and over age groups, both male and female
