Kaieteur Sports – National Sports Commission Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport 11th edition Janet & Cheddi Jagan Windball Cricket champion trophy in Georgetown, organised by Sports Officer A. Munroe and played at the National Gymnasium, saw four teams booking their sports to the semifinal round.
In the Cheddi Jagan boys segment:- Four teams booked their semifinal spots; defending champions Saint Roses High, the three others being Saint Stanislaus College, Houston Secondary and Brickdam Secondary.
In the elimination match played, Bishops High School batted first and scored 71-2. Brickdam Secondary 72-0.
In the other game, Houston after been send it to bat made 88 -3, Tresiah Tyrell 44, Richter Chen 16; Colin Mc Leod took 2-12 for Tucville Secondary who in their turn in the middle after the (DLS) made 71-1 with Colin Mc Leod 52 and Shan Raimoon 21. For the first time in Windball Cricket the (DRS) system was used.
The Semis & finals will be night games.
Meanwhile, the Region 4 game, a new date to be decided with the weather playing a critical part in the regions matches, according to the organiser, we are hoping to complete all the regions competitions then straight into the national semis & finals which has a prize of eight hundred thousand dollars.
It must be noted that the Primary School Windball Cricket will make its return during the month of May 2026, with two competitions, Girls & Boys.
This programme over the years has set the foundation for a number of national cricketers in Guyana, with our Minister with in the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport Steven Jacobs been one of the examples.
