Kaieteur Sports – Solid wins were recorded by Half Mile /One Mile/ Scheme and Blueberry Hill/ Alleys/Valleys/ Christianburg Friday night to kick start this year’s inaugural Linden Town Week Inter Ward football tournament which has been organsied by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, in collaboration with the Upper Demerara Football Association, and is being played at the Bayrock National Stadium in Linden.
Meeting the teams at the march past before play began were Town Clerk of Linden Lennox Gasper, Kashif Muhammed, Aubrey Major, Jermaine Figuiera and UDFA President Wainwright Bethune.

Playing on the freshly laid turf at the Bayrock facility, One Mile/ Half Mile/ Scheme led by a hat-trick from the boot of Marcus Tudor accounted for a 5-0 drubbing of Central/South Mackenzie/ Mines.
The first goal of the tournament was registered by One Mile/Half Mile/ Scheme’s Clinton Charles when he capitalized on a mistake by the opposing goalkeeper in not grabbing the ball cleanly and was able to tuck home for a 1-0 score in the 31st minute.
Then in the 36th minute Marcus Tudor netted his first of three goals knocking home with a left foot shot to send his team up 2 nil and the first half ended with One Mile/ Half Mile/Scheme ahead 2-0.
After the first stanza ended and play resumed Zinadine Ramdehol increased the lead making it 3-0 after he dribbled past his opponent before tucking it into the back of the net, in the 48th minute.
Then Marcus had back-to-back goals in the 58th and 84th minutes for his hat-trick as the One Mile Scheme unit blanked their opponents 5-0.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Blueberry Hill /Alleys/ Valleys/ Christianburg outplayed Silvertown/ West Watooka/ Mines combination 4-1. The winners of that game gained the edge after a reckless foul resulted in a penalty against Silvertown/ West Watooka Mines with Nicholas Gentle converting the spot kick in the 25th minute of play.

Ouston Lewis then sent Blueberry Hill/ Alleys/ Valleys/ Christianburg to a 2-0 cushion netting in the 31st minute but Shane Haynes would reduce the deficit by slotting home a goal in the 45th minute, as his team Silvertown/ West Watooka/ Mines trailed, 1-2, at the break.
But Omar Brewley then gave the Blueberry Hill/ Alleys/ Valleys Christianburg a 3-1 advantage, scoring in the 52nd minute before another goal from Shane Luckie in the 61st minute would wrap up a 4-1 score-line for the winners.
Day two of this four-day competition is set for tomorrow (Monday) at the tournament venue at Bayrock National Stadium. The first game at 6.30pm is between Central/ South Mackenzie/Mines against Amelia’s Ward / Kara Kara/ Bamia, and the second from 8.00pm between Block 22 / Wisrock and Silvertown West Watooka/ Canvas City.
