Seventy-six (76) students were successfully graded last Saturday at the Japan Karate Association/World Federation (JKA/WF) Guyana Karate examinations which were conducted their HQ Dojo, National Park, Thomas Lands.
Students from HQ and Craig Dojo’s were combined and graded,

results for these are as follows:
Georgetown: Six (6) Students moved from White belt to 9 KYU (1st Yellow belt); Eight (8) moved from 9th KYU (1st Yellow belt) to 8 KYU (2nd Yellow belt); 10 moved from 8 KYU (2nd Yellow) to 7 KYU (Orange belt); Three (3) students moved from 7 KYU (Orange belt) to 6 KYU (Green belt) while 11 students were promoted to 5th KYU Purple belt.
In the Intermediate ranks, Five (5) students were promoted to 4th KYU Purple belt and in advance ranking, Three (3) students gained 3rd KYU Brown belt, Two (2) gained 2 KYU Brown belts and 2 students – Athena Arjoon and Jordon Denny were promoted to 1 KYU Brown belt. Arjoon and Denny would now have to train for one year to prepare for their Black belt test.
Craig EBD: One (1) student was promoted from White belt to 9 KYU Yellow belt; One (1) moved to 8 KYU 2nd Yellow belt; Three (3) moved to 7 KYU Orange belt and three (3) students gained 6th KYU Green belt.
Seventeen (17) students were graded from the Canje and Port Mourant Dojo’s in Berbice, results for these locations are:
One (1) student gained 9 KYU Yellow belt; One (1) moved to 6 KYU Green belt and One (1) moved to 5th KYU Purple belt.
In the Intermediate ranking, Four (4) students moved to 4th KYU Purple belt and in the advance ranking, Four (4) students were promoted to 3rd KYU Brown belt. Three (3) moved to 2nd KYU Brown belt and 3 students, Ajay Sohan, Darin Sukalingum and Riyad Nasir were promoted to 1 KYU Brown belt.
Sensei Chaves in closing remarks sought to encourage all students present of the need to keep their attendance regular for all training sessions as there is no short way to reach success in JKA Karate but by continuous and consistent efforts.
Prior to the examination, a training clinic was done to educate and enlighten the many students of the need to understand what JKA Karate is all about, the many benefits of this practice in and out of Dojo and their role with regard to influencing positive change in today’s society.
Sensei Chaves also made mention of the annual Special Training Camp scheduled for August/September and the National tournament in November that sets the stage for participation at the International tournament in 2014 that will be held in Panama City, Panama.
Also, a celebration will be held in August for the five (5) students that achieved their Sho (1st) Dan Black belts in April as well as the success their team had in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA this past June at the International tournament.
