Independence Sports Club of La Grange West Bank Demerara beat Canal Number 2 Sports club by 7 wickets in their own back yard and Zeeburg beat Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ in the other semi-final of the New Line Aqua Farm 40-overs cricket competition at West Meten-Meer-Zorg in the other semi-finals last Sunday.
Zeeburg and Independence will face-off in the final on Sunday April 4 at the Canal Number 2 ground.
Batting first at Canal # 2 ground the home team, who also play first division cricket in Demerara, were bowled out for 160 in 36.4 overs.
Andrew Lyght Junior top scored for the home team with 3 six and 3 fours in 38.
Chabiraj Ramcharran made 30 with 3 sixes and 3 fours, while national player Gajanand Singh 21 with 5 fours and Varo Shivrattan 26 supported with the bat for the host. Bowling for Independence, 20 year old leg Spinner Kishan Shivgobin took 3-24 from eight overs. David Albert 2-15, Hamid Azeez 2-31 and Thakur Persuad 2-22 all supported. In reply, Independence reached 161-3 in 30.1 overs.
Opener Kishan Shivgobin top-scored for the winners with 70 not out with 5 sixes and 6 fours and was supported by Clement Archer 23 and Anand Bharat 18 not out.
Singh picked up 2-46 in a loosing cause for Canal # 2.
At West Meten-Meer-Zorg, Zeeburg beat Meten-Meer-Zorg by 5 wickets in a match reduced to 35 overs.
The host reached 133 all out in 32.5 overs with batsman Balbinder Shivpersaud making 78 not out, with 4 sixes and 5 fours.
Avinash Shardananda supported with 15 but no other batsman reached double figures as medium pacer Azad Azeez took 3-13, Yetesh Dhanpaul 2-23 and Timur Mohamed 2-10. In reply, Zeeburg reached 134 for 5 in 14.4 overs with Yetes Dhanpaul making 38 with 2 sixes and 1 four. Safraz Karim 33 not out and Amirit Jairam (25) supported well.
Skipper Shawn Mckay was the best bowler for Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ with 4-9 from three overs.
