National Rugby Coach Laurie Adonis in an invited comment rated the fitness level of the squad preparing for the IRB Sevens Series slated to be staged next month in Las Vegas, Nevada as being at 80%.
Adonis, who was seen taking the players through their paces yesterday at the National Park, said that they are right on target and exactly where Technical Director Joe Whipple would like them to be.
“Mr. Whipple is expected in Guyana this weekend to spearhead the preparation phase, but even in his absence we’ve been implementing all aspects of the programme he left with us to do, so I’m sure he’ll be pleased with our efforts,” Adonis asserted.
Whipple will be conducting three days of sessions which will include video analysis, game simulations and beep test to ascertain the players’ technical understanding and their individual fitness during his stay.
Adonis informed that the players engaged each other in a few game simulations and according to him he was heartened by what he saw.
He added that the players’ fitness could be judged by their recovery rate which he referred to as excellent at this time.
Commenting on injuries, Adonis disclosed that earlier there were a few, pointing to Captain Claudius Butts as a prime example, but indicated that at present all the players short-listed are injury free and working hard during the sessions.
The squad Adonis stated is supposed to be reduced over the weekend.
