Kaieteur Sports – From an initial field of 32 schools, the 12th Annual Massy Distribution Schools Under-18 Football Tournament, organised by the Petra Organisation has been trimmed to the final 16 following three pulsating rounds of action at the Queen’s College ground.
With the competition now at the knockout stage, the race for the 2026 title is wide open. Defending champions Dolphin Secondary have already been knocked out after an underwhelming campaign, leaving the door ajar for new contenders. Among the front-runners are Chase’s Academic Foundation, Three Mile Secondary, West Ruimveldt Secondary, and Santa Rosa Secondary, all of whom have shown strong form so far.

Donovan Welcome’s West Ruimveldt aiming to keep title in sight after an intense round-of-16 clash against West Demerara Secondary today.
From here, the stakes rise sharply. With eight quarterfinal spots up for grabs, it’s now win-or-go-home football. By the end of today’s round-of-16 fixtures, the field will be cut in half once more, with only eight teams advancing to the next stage scheduled for tomorrow.
The tournament has delivered plenty of excitement so far. Chase’s Academic Foundation has stamped its authority with commanding performances across all three matches, while West Ruimveldt continues to justify its reputation as one of Georgetown’s football powerhouses. Three Mile Secondary of Bartica has also impressed as a well-drilled unit, though consistency against more experienced opposition remains their biggest test.
All 16 teams will be in action today, each chasing a place in the quarterfinals. Proceedings at the QC ground kick off at 10:30 hrs, when Three Mile Secondary face Lodge Secondary in the opening fixture of the day. Unbeaten so far, Three Mile enters with a slight edge, but Lodge—led by star striker Domonthy Jones—will be eager to upset the odds in what promises to be a tightly contested encounter.
At the same time, East Ruimveldt Secondary square off against St Joseph High in another crucial clash. Both teams will see this as a golden opportunity to advance, with St Joseph showing marked improvement and East Ruimveldt relying on the leadership of Jaheim Harte to guide them through.
Following the opening matches, Ann’s Grove Secondary take on New Amsterdam Secondary, while Belladrum Secondary meets Charlestown Secondary in two more evenly poised round-of-16 fixtures.
At 14:00 hrs, Annandale Secondary go head-to-head with New Central High. New Central has caught the eye with its attractive style of play in recent weeks, and with both teams looking to bounce back from earlier setbacks, this encounter could go either way. A defeat here means immediate elimination, adding extra pressure on both sides.
Simultaneously, Santa Rosa Secondary will be aiming to extend its winning streak to four matches when it face Yarrowkabra Secondary. The latter will have a tough task on hand against a confident Santa Rosa outfit determined to keep its title charge on track.
The day wraps up with two blockbuster clashes. Chase’s Academic Foundation take on Patentia Secondary, while West Ruimveldt Secondary clash with West Demerara Secondary, with both matches expected to deliver high-intensity football as teams battle for a place in the last eight.
Looking ahead, the competition intensifies even further tomorrow, April 19, when the remaining eight teams will compete for just four semifinal spots.
The tournament is sponsored by Massy Distribution, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and Demerara Mutual Group, and is sanctioned by the Ministry of Education.
