Chase’s Kemron Pellew controlling the middle against Patentia as Chase’s Academic Foundation storms into quarterfinals with another huge upset.
Kaieteur Sports – The Queen’s College ground turned into a true football battleground on Saturday as the final sixteen schools clashed in the Round of 16 phase of the 2026 Massy Distribution Under-18 Football Championship. With just eight quarterfinal spots up for grabs, teams delivered high-tempo performances, attacking flair, and disciplined defensive displays.
When the dust settled, St Joseph High, Ann’s Grove Secondary, Charlestown Secondary, Santa Rosa Secondary, West Ruimveldt Secondary, Chase’s Academic Foundation, Three Mile Secondary, and Annandale Secondary all booked their places in today’s quarterfinals.
Across eight thrilling fixtures, West Ruimveldt Secondary, Santa Rosa and Chase’s Academic Foundation once again stamped their authority, producing dominant performances to advance.
West Ruimveldt secured a convincing 4-1 victory over West Demerara Secondary, establishing control early in the contest. Dellon Philadelphia opened the scoring in the 14th minute, latching onto a well-weighted long ball from midfield before calmly slotting home to give his side the lead. Captain Donovan Welcome then took charge of proceedings, netting twice in the 23rd and 31st minutes to complete a clinical first-half brace and hand West Ruimveldt a comfortable 3-1 advantage at the break.
The second half saw West Demerara attempt to regroup, but West Ruimveldt remained compact and composed. Welcome completed his hat-trick in the 55th minute, sealing the result with a decisive finish and capping off a standout individual performance. They now move on to face St Joseph High in the quarterfinals.
Equally impressive, Chase’s Academic Foundation extended their flawless run with a resounding 9-0 demolition of Patentia Secondary. Shaquan David led the charge with a brilliant hat-trick, finding the net in the 10th, 49th, and 50th minutes. Early goals from David and Nyron Barrow set the tone, while Mark Glasgow (31’), Jaden Tasher (30’), Damani Hardy (29’), and Kemron Pellow (22’) all got on the scoresheet in a ruthless first-half display that left Chase cruising with a 6-0 lead at halftime.
Chase maintained their attacking intensity after the restart, with David adding to his tally and Jaden Christian putting the finishing touch on the emphatic win in the 60th minute. They will now face Three Mile Secondary for a place in the semifinals.

Welcome leads the way with treble! West Ruimveldt stays on course after a dominant display by captain Donovan Welcome.
Santa Rosa Secondary ended Yarrowkabra Secondary’s title ambitions in a tightly contested encounter, edging them 3-2 after 70 minutes of end-to-end football. Dane Phillips, Darren Wade, and Andell James were on target for Santa Rosa, who now prepare to meet Annandale Secondary in the quarterfinals.
Annandale advanced with a composed 2-0 victory over New Central High. Ronoko Morris struck early, finishing confidently in the seventh minute, while Demarion Headley doubled the lead 30 minutes later with a well-taken goal that effectively put the game beyond reach.
Charlestown Secondary secured a narrow 2-1 win, thanks to a brace from Adion Marks, whose clinical finishing proved decisive. They will now face Ann’s Grove Secondary, who progressed after a solid 2-0 win over Belladrum Secondary, with Kennard Halley netting both goals.
St Joseph High continues to impress with a clinical 4-2 victory over East Ruimveldt. Semech Starke led the attack with a brace, while Joel Stephen and Laurel George each added a goal to complete a well-rounded offensive display. Three Mile Secondary also advanced in dramatic fashion, edging their opponents 5-4 after a high-scoring contest that was deadlocked at 3-3 at the end of regulation, showcasing nerves of steel in the decisive moments.
