Kaieteur Sports – A composed half-century from opener Parmeshwar Ram, supported by strong contributions from his teammates, propelled Demerara to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Berbice to clinch the 2026 GCB Inter-County U19 50-Over title.
Playing in their own backyard at the Rose Hall Canje Ground, Berbice struggled to post a competitive total after opting to bat first. Despite familiarity with conditions, they were bowled out for 134 in 46 overs.
Adrian Hetmyer led the resistance with 31, while Richard Ramdehol (23) and Vishal Williams (20) offered brief support.
Demerara’s bowling attack proved disciplined and effective, with right-arm leg-spinner Dhanesh Persaud leading the charge with an impressive 4-24. Ram also made an impact with the ball, claiming 2-11 to further restrict the hosts.
In response, Demerara’s chase was anchored by Man-of-the-Match Ram, who returned to the crease to guide his side home with a well-crafted 50 off 64 deliveries, striking three fours and three sixes. He shared a crucial 86-run opening partnership with Kishawn Silas, whose patient 48 off 104 balls (1 four, 2 sixes) provided stability at the top.
With the foundation firmly set, Emmanuel Lewis added an unbeaten 27 to steer Demerara comfortably to 135-2 in 37.2 overs, sealing a dominant victory and the championship title.
Feaz Baksh (1-22) was the lone wicket-taker for Berbice, but the home side had no answers to Demerara’s all-round superiority on the day. (Clifton Ross)
