– Berbice Inter Village Easter Cup continues
Kaieteur Sports – The stage is set for a thrilling weekend of knockout football as the Berbice Annual Inter Village Easter Cup moves into its decisive quarterfinal round on March 21 and 22 at the Paradise Community Centre Ground, West Coast Berbice.
After a fiercely contested opening phase, eight of the competition’s strongest village teams remain in the hunt for glory: Buxton Stars, Air Hall Football Club, Victoria Kings FC, Cougars FC, Mahaica Determinators FC, Paradise Invaders FC, Timehri United FC and Trafalgar Titans FC. With a semifinal place on the line, the margin for error has all but disappeared.
Buxton Stars enter the quarterfinals riding a wave of resilience after edging Pouderoyen 1-0 in a tense encounter. Forced onto the back foot for much of the second half, Buxton showed grit and composure under pressure to grind out the result. Paradise Invaders FC, by contrast, come in with momentum and attacking confidence, having dismantled Kildonan FC 4-1 in a commanding performance that underlined their title credentials.
The weekend action kicks off on Saturday with a double-header that promises fireworks. Buxton Stars will look to carry their defensive discipline into their clash with Victoria Kings FC, who will be eager to test their resolve. That matchup is followed by Air Hall FC against Cougars FC, a contest that could hinge on which side better handles the high-stakes pressure of the knockout phase.
Sunday’s fixtures are equally compelling. Mahaica Determinators FC face Timehri United FC in what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle, with both teams determined to outwork and outplay each other for a semifinal berth. The final game of the quarterfinal stage sees home side Paradise Invaders FC taking on Trafalgar Titans FC. Backed by home support, Paradise will be confident but they face a formidable opponent in the Titans, whose name reflects their tough, unyielding playing style.
By the end of Sunday’s action, the field will be cut in half; four teams advancing to the semifinals, while four see their championship hopes come to an end.
Making the event possible is Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, No. 30 Guinness Bar, G&F Construction, JS Construction, Kravin Lounge, Sweet Lips Enterprise, Stacey & Sons SuperBet, and KNV Design Construction and Supplies. The championship is also coordinated by the Paradise Invaders Football Club.
