Kaieteur News – The first golf course in Region Three opened to the public on Saturday April 1 and it certainly was no joke as dozens of players, special invitees and officials came out for a first look at the innovative design by Aleem Hussain. The project is a partnership with Nexgen Golf and the Ronald Sami family from Vreed-en-Hoop.
High Commissioner of India Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, Speaker of the House Hon. Manzoor Nadir, Vice Chairman of Region 3 Omesh Satyanand, Honorary Consul to Malaysia Vic Odit, President of Region 3 Private Sector Halim Khan and former Guyana Open Champion Avinda Kishore all spoke glowingly about Guyana’s newest golf course and the growth of the sport over the past few years.
His Excellency Dr. K. J. Srinivasa pointed out, “Golf has the potential to change the sports landscape in Guyana and I praise the efforts of Aleem and Nexgen Golf to date. What they have accomplished is unimaginable and kudos to the entire team.”

Vice Chairman, speaking on behalf of Regional Chairman Inshan Ayube talked about the growth Region Three is achieving and impact the golf course will have on tourism for the local businesses.
“We have seen the commitment and energy put into this project and our full support will continue to be behind this project.”
Students from 7 Mile Secondary school in Bartica traveled to the new course to practice for their upcoming CSEC examinations and listened intently as the speakers promoted the benefits of participating in golf.
The opening was sponsored by Banks DIH, Aracari Resorts, Guyana Beverages, Praetorian Executive Security, Sunshine Snacks, Toolsie Persaud Ltd, Oddesey Tours, Blue Waters, Party Castle, M. Arjune Construction, Saleema Jack, Aleena and Bill Knight, Nexgen Golf Academy and the Shafura Hussain Foundation.
The facility will be open for regular play just after the Easter Monday celebration when families will be able to come to the course to picnic, fly kites, fish, play other sports in a safe environment. For reservations, call 645-0944.
