Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s sprinting future announced itself in emphatic fashion on the track in South American Youth Games 2026, as Ezekiel Millington powered to gold in the boys’ 100m final to headline a commanding showing for the Golden Arrowhead.
Millington stopped the clock at a blistering 10.50 seconds, leading a historic one-two finish for Guyana, with compatriot Gordon Thompson securing silver in 10.64. Franco Stefoni (10.72s) of Chile finished third.
The victory carries added significance, as Millington’s win represents only Guyana’s second gold medal in the history of the Youth Games. The first came in 2017 when Deshanna Skeete struck gold in the girls’ 400m in Chile, making Millington’s achievement a landmark moment for Guyana’s athletics programme.
Speaking after the race, Millington expressed pride in delivering for his country, noting his satisfaction at executing his race plan and standing atop the podium in Guyana’s colours.
Elsewhere on the track, Akeelah Dover produced a determined effort in the girls’ 400m final but narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
Dover clocked 55.38 seconds in a competitive race won by Brazil’s Ortiz in 54.34, with Castro (54.41) and Melo (54.84) completing the podium.
In the boys’ 400m final, Ade Sealy also battled strongly, finishing fifth in 49.12. Brazil’s Aguero led the field to gold in 47.53, ahead of Venezuela’s Pena (47.86) and Colombia’s Rojas (48.17).
Guyana’s overall medal tally in Panama has now climbed to four (one gold, one silver and two bronze), reflecting a commendable campaign at the Games, which have brought together more than 2,000 young athletes from across the continent.

(Kaieteur News) – For years, we have called May 5, “Arrival Day.” It is a name that sounds inclusive but, in reality, obscures more than it reveals.
