Kaieteur Sports – The long wait for the return of competitive football to Linden is almost over as the inaugural Linden Town Week Inter-Ward Tournament, powered by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Spot (MCYS) and organised by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation in collaboration with the Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) kicks off (Friday) tonight at the brand new, Bayrock Stadium.
Officially opened by the Government of Guyana on January 31st, 2026, this facility is equipped with international standard lights and also boasts an accredited international track which will also further boost the skills of hundreds of athletes in the Bauxite Mining Town.
The march past of the six contesting wards at 18:00hrs will signal the start of the four-day tournament which would be followed by the opening match at 19:00hrs between Half Mile / One Mile / Scheme taking on Central and South Mackenzie / Mines in a group A fixture.
The feature clash of the night, a group B showdown, brings together Blue Berry Hill / Christianburg / Alleys & Valleys and Silver Town / West Watooka / Canvas City from 21:30hrs.
Fixtures for Monday, April 27th, day two-group A, Central and South Mackenzie / Mines tackling Amelia’s Ward / Kara Kara / Bamia from 18:00hrs followed by a group B’s Block 22 / Wisrock suiting up against Silvertown /West Watooka / Canvas City from 20:30hrs.
Wednesday April 30th when the final two group matches will be played, pits Blue Berry Hill / Christianburg / Alleys & Valleys (group B) against Block 22 / Wisroc from 18:00hrs with the night capper between Half Mile / One Mile / Scheme and Amelia’s Ward / Kara Kara / Bamia from 20:30hrs.
The top two teams from the respective group will advance to the tournament final of May 1st at the same venue while the respective runner-up wards will contest the third place game.
Wards will be battling for two million in prizes with the winner receiving one million, second place $500,000, third $200,000 and fourth place $150,000.
