Action continued over the weekend in the Barakat Brothers West Demerara Cricket competition with Lenora beating Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ to book a place in the semi-finals.
Windsor Forest is the other team from Zone ‘B’ to reach the semi-finals while Vergenoegen, Zeeburg and Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ have 8 points each with one match in hand as the battle for semi-final spots intensifies in zone ‘A’.
Vergenoegen will play Zeelught on Sunday at Meten-Meer-Zorg West after Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘A’ face Zeeburg at the same venue on Saturday to determine which two teams from Zone ‘A’ will advance to the semis.
In Sunday’s quarter-final at Meten-Meer-Zorg West, Leonara mauled host Meten-Meer-Zorg ‘B’ by 131 runs to top Zone ‘B’ in the Barakat Brother’s 40 Cricket Competition in West Demerara.
Batting first Lenora and Zaheer Khan 2-25 bowled well for the host.
In reply Meten-Meer-Zorg B were blown away for 31 in 9.3 overs. Only Leyland Sobers scored 13 not out reached double figures, seven of the batsman failed to score. The main Destroyer for Leonara was medium pacer Hemendra Kowlessar who took 6-16 from five overs and Pramenarine Arjune 3-7 from 1.3 overs.
Meanwhile, in a match of academic interest on Saturday, Shamrock beat host Uitvlugt by seven wickets. Uitvlugt made 89 all out with Mohanadeen Mohamed taking 4-11, Julius Williams 3-8 and Abdulla Nizamudeen 2-21. In reply Shamrock reached 91-3 in 9.3 overs with Abdulla Nizamudeen scoring 39.
