Need for Speed Series Championship Round One… All roads lead to Thomaslands
GEORGETOWN, Guyana, – The two-day racing extravaganza that kicks off an action-packed month of motorsport starts today at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Thomaslands venue with the first round of the Need for Speed Karting Championship. The Jumbo Jet events race meet gets going today with the official qualifying segment from 5:00 p.m. with the GX200 class, followed by the SuperMoto Junior (85cc), Briggs Female, SuperMoto Senior (250cc), Briggs Rookie (Over 35), IAME X30, Briggs Junior, Briggs Senior Heavy, Briggs Veteran, Briggs Cadet and Briggs Senior Light classes.
Tomorrow, Saturday, action across the 11 classes will begin from 8:00 a.m. with the opening of pits and scrutineering. Drivers will then attend a mandatory briefing at 8:45 a.m. before final preparations get underway. The National Anthem is scheduled for 9:00 a.m., followed by final grid staging and driver preparation.
Karting action returns to the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club Thomaslands for the first round of the Jumbo Jet events karting championship round one.
Racing action starts at 9:15 a.m. with the opening heat for the Honda GX200 class. The day’s programme will continue at 15-minute intervals, featuring the SuperMoto Junior (85cc), Briggs Female, SuperMoto Senior (250cc), Briggs Rookie (Over 35), IAME X30, Briggs Junior, Briggs Senior Heavy, Briggs Veteran, Briggs Cadet and Briggs Senior Light classes.
Following the completion of Heat One, competitors and officials will break for lunch from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. before returning to the track for Heat Two, which gets underway immediately after. Heat Two is expected to play a crucial role in determining starting positions and momentum heading into the championship finals. Drivers will have little room for error as every point could prove decisive in the race for top honours.
A short 20-minute break is scheduled from 3:30 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. before the championship finals commence. The finals will once again feature all 11 categories, with each race expected to deliver intense wheel-to-wheel competition as drivers push for victory.
The championship showdown will conclude with the award ceremony at 6:50 p.m., where the top three finishers in every class will be recognised for their performances.
Organisers are anticipating another strong turnout of racers and spectators as the Need for Speed Series continues to grow in popularity among Guyana’s motorsport community. With experienced racers, rising young talents and several closely contested championships on the line, fans can expect a full day of high-speed action and entertainment at the G5S Speedway. Promoters have noted that race lengths, class schedules and event format may be adjusted if required due to weather, safety concerns or operational considerations. However, the focus remains firmly on delivering another exciting chapter in the Need for Speed Series. With championship honours at stake and bragging rights on the line, all roads lead to the G5S Speedway this Saturday for what promises to be an action-packed day of karting competition.
