Amazon Warriors newbie Van Lange amped up ahead of 2026 GSL/CPL seasons
– Eager to soak up game from teammates like Hetmyer/Rutherford, others
Kaieteur Sports – Dynamic Guyana and West Indies U-19 all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange, said he’s ready to do what it takes to ensure his new team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ retain their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League title as preparations ramp up ahead of this season.
The GSL 2026 bowls off from July 23 to August 1 in Guyana, with the Warriors looking to defend their crown at home against a bevy of top stars who will be representing their respective franchises from around the globe.
Guyana/West Indies U-19 all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange, said he’s ready to do what it takes to ensure his new team, the Guyana Amazon Warriors retain their ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League crown.
Van Lange was named replacement for wicketkeeper/batter Amir Jangoo, a move which was enforced by the reigning champions after the elegant Trinidadian was selected to the West Indies Test squad.
Van Lange, a West Indies Under-19 standout, scored a century on his senior Four-Day debut for Guyana Harpy Eagles against West Indies Academy in May this year and followed up with an even fifty in the final of the West Indies Four-Day Championship against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.
A hard-hitting middle-order batter and lively medium-pacer, the 19-year-old has also been named in the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad for the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League, billed for August 7 to September 20.
Speaking briefly with the media on Thursday at Thirst Park during the launch of Banks DIH XM Rum’s partnership alongside the GSL, Van Lange said 2026 has certainly been a dream year for him, as his goals remain being the best version of himself while maintaining his high standards of class as one of Guyana’s purest all-round athletes.
The all-rounder said he’s working diligently on his fitness, an area he admitted he had brushes with in the past but has been putting in the extra work to ensure he remains in peak physical condition and form.
Despite being a star in his own right, the Harpy Eagles newbie said he wants to learn as much as he can from the players, especially his teammates like Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd and others; while learning the overly supportive Guyanese cricket fan base which has been known to throw their full support behind their young local stars.
Meanwhile, the Amazon Warriors will be looking to stave off the likes of; Lahore Qalandars of Pakistan- returning for their second stint in the Global Super League- and newcomers Desert Vipers of the UAE, Perth Scorchers XI of Australia and the San Francisco Unicorns of USA, when action bowls off this season.
