Kaieteur Sports – Backed by three of his countrymen and Guyana Harpy Eagles teammates, National Captain Tevin Imlach will lead the West Indies Select XI in today’s start to an important 4-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua.
Having won the T20 series 2-1 recently, action now shifts to the longer format as the Sri Lankans will look to have much better results in the Test arena.
Apart from the Guyanese national Captain, the 13-man squad features a few more of the right-hander’s countrymen like wicket-keeper Kemol Savory, fast-bowler Nial Smith and all-rounder Keemo Paul.

The match presents a great opportunity for both Savory and Smith who have been on the radar in recent seasons, but have not yet gotten the full bite at the apple; making this shot at destiny all the more crucial for the duo.
While Savory and Smith will both be looking for their breakthroughs onto the Test circuit, the pair of Paul and Imlach have already gotten a nibble at the apple regarded as international cricket.
Both men have already gotten their maroon caps but have yet to fully establish themselves, with Paul’s Renaissance being more important this trip after he was once touted as a key piece in both the fast-bowling/pinch-hitters departments before battling injuries and form on his way back to a seemingly good cricket place.
A number of other top West Indies prospects like Gilon Tyson, Kevin Wickham, Karima Gore, Joshua Bishop and others will also be looking to use this opportunity to showcase their skills and keep themselves on the selectors’ radar ahead of a busy summer; thus keeping the spirit of competition alive amongst the Caribbean side.
The first Test match will bowl off from June 25th at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua.
