Drepaul, Devers capture 5-wkt hauls
Malteenoes Sports Club’s (MSC) Randy Lindore (128) and Jermaine Jones (102) of Police hit centuries, while Everest’s left-arm spinner Sauid Drepaul (6-30) and Police off- Spinner Ricardo Devers (5-54) grabbed five-wicket hauls yesterday on the final day of the fourth round of the Cellink Plus two-day first division cricket competition in the City.
Drepaul’s effort helped hosts Everest to an emphatic innings and 11-run win against the struggling GDF while the other two matches in the round ended in draws.
At Camp Road, GDF, replying to Everest’s 255, fell for 104 after beginning the day on 78-2, as Drepaul, a former Guyana Under-19 Captain, got support from Troy Gonsalves (2-28).
Asked to follow-on, 151 runs in arrears, the Soldiers were bundled out for 140 as the one-sided contest ended at 14:30hrs.
Travis Gilbert top scored with 37 while Amos Rambajan (28) and former Guyana first-class medium pacer Roderick Lovell (27) offered token resistance.
Surendra Herilall took three wickets and got support from Demerara Under-19 leg-spinner Amir Khan and left-arm spinner Javeed Rashid who captured two wickets each for the winners.
At MSC, the home team, began the day on 47-1 in their second innings after being asked to follow-on and produced a vastly improved showing after being bowled out for 63 in their first innings.
The Thomas Lands side, declared at 330-7 at Tea leaving GINC, who made 197 in their first innings 198 to win from a minimum of 14 overs, plus the mandatory 15 in the last hour.
The 29-year-old Lindore, who was the only batsman to reach double figures in the first innings, demonstrated excellent shot-selection and entertained the small crowd with an array of well timed drives and clever sweeps against the spinners to reach the boundary 16 times in his first ever three-figure score.
National players Deon Ferrier (82), Steven Jacobs (34) and Shemroy Barrington (30) also batted well, as former West Indies off-spinner Clyde Butts, ex-Guyana fast bowler Rayon Griffith and Wayne Blande picked up two wickets each for GNIC who reached 107-5 in their second innings.
Demerara Under-19 wicketkeeper Dexter Solomon finished unbeaten on 32 while his Under-19 teammate Delroy Charles (22) and Griffith (19) got starts.
Off-spinner Jacobs 2-17 and left-arm spinner Damien Vantull took 2-8 to finish with eight wickets in the match, bowled well for MSC, who despite losing first innings points, maintained their lead in the competition.
In the other game yesterday, Transport Sports Club (TSC), replying to Police’s 180, resumed on 124-3 and fell for 226 as TSC took a 46-run first innings lead.
Wazeer Mohamed continued his good form with 61 and got support from Chandra Persaud who made 34 for TSC as Devers took his second first division five-wicket haul in his third game at this level to take his wicket tally to 16 from three matches.
The 16-year-old Devers, who struggled for consistency in the GTM Under-19 Inter-County tournament, got support from Vishal Jaigobin who took 4-61.
From a position of 137-4 at Tea, the Cops batted positively to declare at 281-8 with Jones smashing seven fours and three sixes in his maiden ton.
Reginald Rodrigues fell three short of his century after hitting 11 fours and a six. Oslyn Batson (3-84) and off-spinner Kevin Ross (2-75) were the main wicket takers for TSC who reached 28-1 off seven overs in their second innings when the contest ended.
Demerara Under-19 all-rounder Carl Rambharose (5) gloved a hook to the keeper off a bouncer from Dexter Southwell as the match ended in a stalemate. The next round is scheduled for this weekend. (Sean Devers)
