Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Amazon Warriors breakout player and Sergeant within the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Quentin Sampson, earned praises from his fellow lawmen following yesterday’s official announcement.
With the 2026 CPL season fast approaching, franchises continue to put their final pieces together as they prepare for what could be the hottest season yet.
On Thursday, CPL released the official list of retained players who have been kept by their respective franchises ahead of summer’s biggest party, naming the West Indies T20 batsman as an official member of the Guyana Amazon Warriors team.
Following the news, via their Facebook GPF Cricket page, a heartfelt congratulatory message was issued on behalf of Commissioner of Police Mr. Clifton Hicken, Deputy Commissioner “Administration” and Chairman of Police Cricket Mr. Ravindradat Budhram along with all senior Officers, Inspectors, fellow ranks and staff of the Guyana Police Force.
The statement lauded Sampson whose discipline on the field is a keen reflection of his Police Sergeant rank, on being retained as the Guyana Amazon Warriors as their Breakout Player for the CPL 2026 season, a title he earned after turning heads last season with his immense talent and effortlessly boundary-hitting abilities.
The 25 year-old Sampson, who joined the GPF at the age of 19 before carving out a career as a successful athlete while performing duties of a serving member of the GPF, could further apply the mental aspect of his Police Training to his on-field game approach; with discipline and efficiency being a key part of his overall approach to cricket.
Having already worked his way into the West Indies senior team, the batting all-rounder could use this year’s CPL to further establish himself as a T20 gun-for-hire on the more bigger, lucrative franchise cricket markets across the globe.
Sampson made his West Indies debut during the bilateral series against the Afghans which was a warm-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, playing in all 3 matches before being named as part of the squad for series against South Africa.
Following the South African series, which was the last T20 battle before the World Cup, Sampson yet again found favor from the selectors who opted to name him as part of Windies squad where he gained tons of experience being a part of which could likely be his first of many ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournaments.
In closing, the GPF statement sent well wishes for future endeavors while lauding Sampson’s outstanding achievements; further wishing for his overall continued success. (Clifton Ross)
