(Kaieteur News) – Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for the murder of his mother at their Cornelia Ida home, West Coast Demerara (WCD).
The dead woman has been identified as 55-year-old Surujdai Kahriu, called ‘Sharda’.
Reports are that she was killed between 16:25h and 22:40h on Thursday. Kahriu lived with her two sons, police said. Kaieteur News understands that one of her sons left their home and upon his return found his mother dead.
Preliminary reports suggest that the woman was beaten and hacked to death.
The other son, was reportedly in the home at the time of Kahriu’s death. He was arrested and the woman’s remains were taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Home where it awaits an autopsy.
Police are reviewing security cameras to ascertain what transpired.
