Annandale, New Cambellville Sec’ win Independence Tapeball Cricket trophies

Kaieteur Sports – As Guyana concluded its 60th Independence Anniversary celebrations, Annandale Secondary and New Campbellville Secondary emerged champions of the International Imports and Supplies Diamond Jubilee Inter-Secondary Schools Tapeball Cricket tournaments.
Annandale Secondary School Boy’s cricket team successfully lifted the Independence Cup title.
On Tuesday, while Independence festivities unfolded across the country, several young cricketers gathered at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall tarmac where Annandale Secondary defeated Covent Garden Secondary by seven wickets to capture the Independence Cup title.
Batting first, Covent Garden posted 58-3 from their allotted four overs. Shawn Hussein anchored the innings with a composed 31, guiding the East Bank side to a competitive total. Matthew Persaud led the bowling effort for Annandale, claiming 2-19.
In reply, Annandale Secondary raced to 61-3, thanks to an explosive 34 from Nathan Chaterpaul. Chaterpaul fittingly sealed victory with a powerful boundary over the in-field as Annandale secured the title by seven wickets. Despite the defeat, Covent Garden’s Vishan Kalpoo delivered a spirited spell, finishing with figures of 2-23.
Following the match, the victorious team received trophies and medals donated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at the National Park tarmac, New Campbellville Secondary captured the International Imports and Supplies-sponsored Inter-Secondary Schools Tapeball title with an emphatic eight-wicket win over Bishop’s High School.
Batting first, Bishop’s High reached 58-4, with Aiyan Persaud top-scoring with 27. Shahid Sukhai starred with the ball for New Campbellville, taking 3-29.

In response, Lakhan Ganesh produced a match-winning knock of 38 runs as New Campbellville cruised to 61-2 to seal the Independence trophy. Andrew Narine was the lone wicket-taker for Bishop’s High, finishing with 2-29. Makhaya Jones was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Also, Covent Garden Secondary claimed the Second Formers’ Independence Trophy competition, which was donated by Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Steven Jacobs, MP.
The tournaments were coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis, who expressed gratitude to International Imports and Supplies CEO Joe Jagmohan, Hon. Steven Jacobs, MP, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for their continued support.
The next tournament is scheduled for June 13 following the completion of CXC examinations, pending sponsorship arrangements.
