Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Harpy Eagles bagged their first win of the season, beating the Windward Volcanoes by 4 wickets after a pair of tenacious half-centuries from Captain Tevin Imlach and his deputy Matthew Nandu yesterday at the Sir Viv Richards Ground, Antigua.
After the loss of Kevlon Anderson (4) prior to stumps on day 3, Imlach resumed his innings already in the 20’s alongside Nandu with the Eagles needing 194 runs for victory.
The duo’s hundred partnership eased the pressure of the chase, as Imlach batted his way to 82 off 182 deliveries with 11 fours, getting himself into ideal form with a shortened season ahead.
Nandu, who shrugged off a poor first innings, redeemed himself immediately by grinding for his 58 which came off 182 balls with 6 fours.
The Eagles looked to cruise home after the pair of fifties but when the partnership was broken, the Volcanoes pulled things back slightly by removing other big pieces like Tagenarine Chanderpaul (17), Kemol Savory (24) and Keemo Paul (17).
After his match 10-fer, Gudakesh Motie was forced to carry his team home with a brisk 23 not out off 13 balls, smacking 3 fours and a six to see Guyana to their first win.
Guyana would end their second innings on 233-6 after 78.4 overs, as the Volcanoes bowling effort, which was far better in the first innings, was carried out by Kenneth Dember (2-75) and seamer Ryan John (2-48).
Scores: Guyana Harpy Eagles (264 1st innings and 233-6 2nd inning) beat Windward Islands Volcanoes 286 1st innings and 209 2nd innings) by 4 wickets. (Clifton Ross)
