Kaieteur Sports – Guyanese amateur boxing continues to find its spark, and this time it’s Ken Harvey lighting the fuse.
At the 4th Youth South American Games in Panama City, the young pugilist delivered a statement performance on Wednesday night, dismantling Paraguay’s Adgar Miranda en route to a commanding second round-stoppage victory and a well-earned bronze medal in the 60kg division.
From the opening bell, Harvey showed poise beyond his years. Measured and watchful early, he probed with sharp defensive jabs, testing Miranda’s timing while staying just out of danger. But the calm didn’t last long. Once he found his rhythm, Harvey flipped the switch, turning precision into punishment.

Guyanese pugilist, Ken Harvey with coach Lennox Daniels moments before his fight against Paraguay’s Adgar Miranda.
Using his reach to full advantage, the Guyanese fighter began to dictate the tempo. Crisp jabs snapped Miranda’s head back, while well-placed hooks to the body started to sap the Paraguayan’s resistance. Miranda, known for his counterpunching, had moments of intent but Harvey consistently beat him to the mark.
Midway through the first round, the pressure told.
A thunderous body shot forced the first eight-count at 1:36, as Harvey’s relentless combinations began to break through. He closed the round in complete control, sweeping maximum points from all five judges.
If the first round was dominance, the second was destruction. Harvey came out all-in—no hesitation, no let-up. Spearing jabs pierced Miranda’s guard, while cannon-like hooks battered the body. The Paraguayan had no answers. Another barrage forced a second eight-count, but this time there would be no recovery. At 2:32 of round two, the referee stepped in. Contest over. Harvey victorious by RSC.
It was a performance that turned heads, and lifted spirits back home.
In a statement, the Guyana Boxing Association praised the young fighter’s showing, noting their satisfaction with the bronze medal finish and expressing confidence in even greater success ahead. The Association’s president echoed the sentiment, highlighting Harvey’s impact in injecting fresh energy into the sport.
And Harvey isn’t done yet.
With momentum firmly on his side, he steps back into the ring to face Brazil’s Maicon Dos Santos—another opportunity to prove that this rising Guyanese talent isn’t just participating… he’s arriving.
