Kaieteur Sports – The Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) of Berbice will on Sunday November 9th will be staging the second annual Mayoral cycle road race around the town of New Amsterdam.
The 8 laps event, which will begin at Esplanade Park from 13:00hrs, is part of the town of New Amsterdam 134th Anniversary and the municipality Town Day celebrations.
The event is open to all cyclists in Regions 5 and 6. The riders will be led by Mayor Wainwright McIntosh as they go for one lap around the town.
Immediately after that the riders will be sent on their way by the Mayor as they pedal off at the junction of Main and Vryheid Road.
The peloton will then proceed along Main Street through Stanleytown, turn left into Tacama Turn along Republic Road, left into Vryheid Street then left into Main Road for 8 laps to finish at Republic Road and Charles place.
All the top cyclists in Berbice are expected to be on show. There are several prizes at stake including cash, trophies and other memorabilia.
The first three finishers will be rewarded along with the top three veteran’s first two juniors and first two beginners.
There are also six sprint point prizes up for grabs.
Mayor Mc Intosh and staff will be on hand to assist with the distribution of prizes at the end of the event.

Meanwhile, a number of businesses have donated cash and other essentials towards making the event a success, including Mayor Mc Intosh himself, Banks DIH Limited, Naiomi Romney the Assistant Secretary of 4S Security Service and Building Enterprises, A. Ally’s and Sons business enterprise, Jermin Bagot from J.G. Bagot &Trim Contracting & Real Estate Company, Home design & Associates, Franco Crawford Trucking Service, Regional Democratic Council Region 6 and other members of the business community.
