Kaieteur News – A 27-year-old labourer lost his life and a police sergeant was hospitalised following a head-on collision along the Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Dead is Keshon Arthur of Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
The accident occurred around 05:45hrs and involved motorcar PAB 1013, driven by Arthur, and motorcar PAM 3828, driven by a 33-year-old police sergeant of Belmont, Mahaica.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the police sergeant was proceeding west along the southern driving lane when Arthur, who was travelling in the opposite direction, allegedly attempted to overtake several vehicles. During the manoeuvre, his vehicle reportedly ended up in the path of the oncoming car.
Despite attempts by the police sergeant to avoid the collision by swerving further south, the front right side of Arthur’s vehicle collided with his car.
Both drivers sustained injuries and were assisted by public-spirited citizens and Emergency Medical Technicians who responded to the scene. They were subsequently taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital.
Arthur was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty, while the police sergeant was admitted suffering a broken right leg and lacerations to his face and body. His condition is listed as stable.
Arthur’s body was later taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.

Are Guyanese drivers being actually given a DRIVING TEST prior to being
legally licensed to drive ? Followed by mandatory instruction/lecture class ?
Where is this Driving Test performed ? A parking lot, designated streets with
traffic signs, where on Test Day, no other traffic is allowed ? Police Station ?
SUGGESTION: Do the driving test at the DAKOTA RACING TRACKS…
INCREASE THE SPEED LIMIT OVER WHAT IS POSTED, IF ANY.
