Former PM Gonsalves, WIPA boss Lewis speak on Mottley/Sinclair situations
Kaieteur Sports – Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, former Prime Minister of St Vincent and the Grenadines had a few harsh words for Cricket West Indies (CWI), during an appearance on the Mason and Guest show recently.

Dr. Gonsalves agreed with the position of Prime Minister Mia Mottley about Barbados not getting games this year, citing that CWI president Dr. Kishore Shallow should not be president of CWI and serve as a Minister of Government at the same time.
The comments came after the Bajan Prime Minister said they could no longer wait for the CWI to play a role in their future development, after no Regional or international games were slated to be hosted in the country for 2026.

He said it’s a clear conflict of interest, adding that he was in discussion with Consultant of CWI Senator Jamal Slocombe, who suggested that Gonsalves was a stranger to the truth on some issues.
Meanwhile, Secretary of West Indies Players Association (WIPA), Wayne Lewis during the show spoke about the Kevin Sinclair fiasco in Guyana. Lewis stated that he was unhappy how the Guyana Cricket Board had treated Sinclair’s situation, after the all-rounder was not selected to play in the upcoming regional tournament with the Harpy Eagles squad.

I was very, very much involved in that situation, and I was very upset,” Lewis said. “We thought that due process was not followed. There was no hearing, no disciplinary committee. He was just sent home,” said Lewis.
Lewis noted that the issue is of great concern to WIPA and as such plans to hold talks with CWI regarding the issue. The GCB officials including chief selector Ramnaresh Sarwan, during a press conference last Saturday said the all-rounder was guilty of numerous disciplinary breaches while exhibiting an attitude which was detrimental to the team.
Nevertheless, a Sinclair-less Harpy Eagles winged out on Thursday in pursuit of their 4th consecutive Regional 4-Day title, with the 2026/27 season just days away.
