Kaieteur Sports – With exactly a week to the mega karting event locally known as the Nitro Kart Clash, the track is nearing completion.
The event, set for April 18 and 19 at the National Stadium Providence Parking Lot, is being touted as one of the biggest motorsport events and the biggest karting event locally, with over $10M dollars in cash and prizes on offer.
And with the clock counting down, organisers have confirmed that the track layout is complete, with the final touches expected to be put in place today.
“We are almost complete with getting the track set up. We wanted to give the potential competitors as much time as possible to learn the layout. To get familiar with the surface and the undulations that the Nitro Kart Klash round one will bring,” a spokesman said.
“So far, we’ve had our graphic artists and rendering team put the basic layout on track, but there are going to be some added surprises when the drivers and riders take to the track; we won’t let it out of the bag just yet.”
The .6KM track will be home next weekend to several classes of racing, namely the 200cc 4 Stroke Honda, Briggs 206 Heavy, Briggs 206 Light, Briggs 206 Jr, Briggs 206 Cadet, 125cc IAME, Time Attack Open and SUPERMOTO Senior.
The event will also see the addition of several new classes, including the Briggs Rookie Over 35 (Non-Pro Racers), Briggs Female, Supermoto Jr’s and Electric Scooter Race.
The Jumbo Jet Events brainchild will also include a kids’ zone, complete with trampolines, bouncy castles and other attractions.
“We have a full food court and concession area with games and such set up to ensure that the event is a full family fun day for everyone. We want people to know that we are catering for everyone because it’s a full family fun day too,” the spokesman said.
The event has the support of Banks DIH, AJM Enterprise, KP Jagdeo General Contractors, J’s Supermarket, SCI (Sawh’s Construction Inc.), Precision Service Centre, and Ramchand’s Autobody.
Gates open from 13:00hrs on Saturday, with qualifying and free runs scheduled, and from 08:00hrs on Sunday, when racing action gets going.
Admission is $3,000 for adults, and Children under 12 are free.
