(Kaieteur Sports) – Action continued Monday last in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) Senior Men’s League sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport at the All Saints Ground, New Amsterdam.
Launched two days before with a modest gathering of fans, day two witnessed a huge transformation as supporters came out in their numbers to urge on their favourite team during the three matches contested.
Setting the tone was Paradise FC which came from behind to snatch full points from Fyrish FC, 2-1 in a ding-dong tussle. Fyrish rocked the nets first in the 21st minute through a well-taken strike off the boot of Keyshan Mingo who made the opposition pay for their defensive lapse.
Their advantage was however short-lived as two minutes later, Paradise responded when Anthony Lynch rocked the nets with a composed finish, bringing the match to life.
The winning goal was scored by Ronaldo Gorden for Paradise in the 46th minute to complete the comeback and victory.
Ithaca FC also pocketed full points with a similar 2-1 triumph over Trafalgar Titans. The former started the game with lots of energy making their intentions clear when Garson Baker netted seven minutes into the match.
The game was virtually sealed four minutes later when Baker’s teammate, Neil Lonlton increased the advantage as Trafalgar found themselves in trouble.
Even though the advantage was halved in the 26th minute through a goal from Michael Williams, the rock-solid defence of Ithaca ensured that they staved off every challenge from Trafalgar to even the score.
Cougars FC, after drawing their first match of the league with Trafalgar, ensured that this time around, they walked away with all the spoils when they blanked Kildonan, 2-0 on account of a brace of goals from forward, William Summersett.
Summersett’s goals came in the 21st minute with a well-timed strike and found shooting range again in the 48th minute and made no mistake, as his side capped a fine display.
Were it not for some excellent saves from Kildonan’s custodian, Shamar Emanuelson, the final scoreline could have been much different.
On Saturday night when the tournament opened, Ithaca needled Fryish Black Sharks, while Paradise went on a goal spree to record a 4-1 win over Kildonan and Trafalgar and Cougars played to a 2-2 draw.
League action will resume on Friday with a double header, this time at the Number 5 Ground, West Berbice when Cougars match skills with Ithaca followed by the main attraction between Paradise and Trafalgar Titans.
