Kaieteur Sports – West Coast Warriors have progressed to the 2025 New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) 30-over competition final after beating Empire Cricket Club by 13 runs in last Sunday’s semi-final at Baisley Pond.

Warriors were the 2024 runners-up team and again they are set to tackle defending champions Imperial Cricket Club on Sunday at the same venue.
After winning the toss and opted to bat, West Coast Warriors reached a challenging 204-7 from the allotted 30-overs while Empire Cricket Club replied with 191-7 when the 20-overs completed.
Seasoned batsman Avi Dhanpaul hit an accomplished 50 to lead the way for Warriors. He appeared at number 4 and featured in few solid partnerships after Warriors had an early wobble losing Youghestir Bachan for 11 and then his opening partner Chandrapaul Persaud for 7 (24-2).
New skipper Rajendra Khan (09) offered brief resistance before Dhanpaul and Anthony Providence stitched together an impressive 52-run third-wicket stand.
Khan took over the captaincy from former Guyana youth player Kevin Christian who is now plying his trade in the Minor League T20 tournament also in USA.
Providence, the Trinidadian, contributed a valuable 42 (3×4, 1×6). The ex-Demerara Inter-County player Dhanpaul batted with typical fluency knocking five fours and two sixes during his 49-ball application at the crease.
Warriors, who topped the points’ table with 12 victories from 15 matches before the playoffs segment, also benefitted from a late-order flourish from Rajin Rahoman, who hit an attacking, unbeaten 30 laced with two sixes and a four off 14 balls and he posted up a fiery, 37-run seventh-wicket stand with Brandon Cabose (14).
Right-arm seamer Samuel Mahabir grabbed two wickets for 37 runs from his maximum six overs, delivering for Empire Cricket Club on a responsive track.
When Empire Cricket Club batted, their chase was set back with only 17 runs on the board losing both openers as pacer Javid Shafeek accounted for both victims.
Shafeek finished with 4-25 in his 6-over attractive spell. Ramesh Kasinath stroked a fighting 69 for Empire Cricket Club.
His innings was decorated with two sixes and five fours spanning 56 balls and he got decent support from Mohamed Shaw, who added 50.
Kasinath and Mohamed kept things going with a dogged, 113-run partnership for the third-wicket but once they were separated, the innings lost momentum.
Shafeek was nicely supported by former Essequibo Under-19 leg-spinner Brandon Cabose with 2-34 (06).
The championship game starts at 1pm.
