Kaieteur Sports- The 2025 edition of the highly anticipated Deputy Mayor’s Cup Inter-Ward Seven-a-Side Knockout Football Championship is officially underway at the Eve Leary ground in Georgetown. The tournament, hosted by former national player and coach Lennox Arthur, has already delivered an exciting slate of matches leading into the round of sixteen.

Friday, August 8, saw intense competition and a few surprises as teams battled for early supremacy. Traditional powerhouse Pele narrowly edged out Sophia 2-1 on penalty kicks, while Liliendaal pulled off a stunning upset over North Ruimveldt.

Stewartville secured a 2-1 victory against Road Warriors, and Stabroek Ballers shut out Campbellville 2-0 in a composed performance. Team Madrid dominated Wales with a convincing 3-0 win, while Eagles advanced past Back Circle via walkover. Bent Street displayed their attacking prowess in a commanding 5-0 rout over Beavers, and Police held their nerve to defeat Belle West 2-1.

The action continued yesterday, more details will be provided in a subsequent edition of this publication. The tournament is also expected to heat up as teams prepare for the round of sixteen set for Wednesday, August 13.
