Kaieteur Sports – “We are pleased to honour you as heroes of the educational system in the Lower Corentyne area. The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club strongly believe in the promotion of education as it is the root of success.” Those were the words of Secretary Hilbert Foster as he addressed the presentation ceremony of the Dropattie Ramsammy tribute to outstanding teachers and the Seenarine Memorial tribute to students programme on Thursday last at the Saint Francis Community Developers training hall.
The cricket teams of the RHTYSC hosted the programme with the sponsorship of overseas based resident Dropattie Ramsammy. Under the Seenarine memorial programme five students of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School were honored as students of the year 2023. Students honoured were the best in the respective level.
Foster noted that all students were selected by the management of the school and urged them to always strive for excellence. The Former BCB president, who has returned full time to the RHTYSC, stated that the club was pleased to work along with Ms Ramsammy as the Lower Corentyne Secondary School was very crucial to the overall success the clubs cricket team.
Players Kevlon Anderson, Shawn Grant, Junior Sinclair, Micheal Rengasmi, Keith Simpson, Deeraj Ramjit, Sohil Mohammed, Nyron Hicks, Danielle Manns, Trisha Hardat and Natasha Subramanie are all products of the school.
The students honored were, Michael Smith grade 7, Amanda Sampson grade 8, Afzal Nabi grade 9, Emmanuel Paul grade 10 and Tameshwar Nandlall grade 11. They each received a trophy, medal, framed certificate, an electronic tablet and a Mike’s pharmacy special gift package.
A total of 9 outstanding teachers were recognized under the Dropattie Ramsammy tribute to teachers programme. The teachers were selected by their respective school as their best teacher for 2023 based on performance in the classroom personal, discipline, attendance record and relationship with students. Those honored were Savitree Brijkumar Lower Corentyne secondary school, Nurmala Subramani Corentyne Comprehensive High school, Canbica Barker JC Chandisingh Secondary school, Mark Cyri Port Mourant Secondary, Karen Marks Singh Rose Hall Primary, Zaman Ahsidally Port Mourant Primary, Elisha Singh Belvedere primary, Kamache Pasramen Rose Hall Town nursery and Nessa Balram Ankerville Nursery.
The teachers, who were treated to lunch after the ceremony, each received certificates, a medal, trophy, an electronic tablet and Mike’s pharmacy special gift package.
Foster hailed the awardees as positive role models in the educational system and congratulated them on a job well done. He urged them to uphold his standards they said themselves and also called on them to share their experience with the rest of the teaching profession. Noting that teachers are responsible for the development of every other profession, he urged the awardees to continue working hard as Guyana continues its path to development.
Sponsor Dropattie Ramsammy stated that she was delighted to sponsor the two programmes as she was a living testament to the power of education and the impact of a supportive community. She urges students and teachers to never give up on their dreams and aspiration. She stated that education was a powerful key to unlocking doors of opportunity. Ms Ramsammy, is a former student of the Lower Corentyne secondary school, she is now employed as a registered nurse at the Jamaica medical hospital in Queens NY.
She committed to sponsoring the two programmes in the future and expressed gratitude to the cricket teams for their support in organizing the event.
Teacher Zaman Ahsidally expressed thanks to the RHTYSC and the sponsor for recognizing the efforts of teaching profession. Ahsidally stated that he was inspired by the award to do more in his job. The RHTYSC in 2024 plans to honour over 100 more outstanding Berbicians under its tribute to hero programme. The club plans to honour teachers, retired educators, fireman, law enforcement officers, postal workers, medical workers, social workers, sportsmen among others. National cricketers Shemaine Campbell and Kevlon Anderson handed over the different awards to the awardees.
