Kaieteur Sports – USA-based Guyanese Ravi Lutchman, proprietor of JIS&L, NY, and another anonymous friend have generously donated $50,000 and $40,000 respectively towards the collaborative effort led by Kishan Das of the USA and Anil Beharry of Guyana.
Ravi, a softball legend known for his international team representations, is contributing for the first time, while the other friend is supporting for the second time.
Both patrons express satisfaction with the initiative’s progress and pledge continued support whenever possible.
Gratitude is extended for the assistance in procuring requested gear that was previously unavailable.
Once again, the project appeals to corporate entities, private businesses, and individuals to aid in keeping youths engaged in sports to deter them from street activities, including drugs and crime.
Village leaders are urged to mobilize youths, promoting active involvement in sports to address the recent surge in teenage delinquency, aiming to eradicate it from society.
A total of $460,000 in cash has been collected, along with various cricket-related items including uniforms, trophies, shoes, protective gear, and equipment. Additionally, former National wicketkeeper/batsman Sheik Mohamed donated gear valued over $600,000.
All cash contributions are allocated for purchasing cricket gear requested but unavailable at the time.
Seventy-two young players from across Guyana have directly benefited from gear bags, trophies, protective equipment, and cricket essentials. Furthermore, clubs in the Pomeroon area and various cricket committees and clubs received support in the form of equipment, uniforms, and cricket balls.
Notable beneficiaries include the Essequibo Cricket Board, Lethem, and softball teams in the Upper Corentyne area, among others.
Cricket-related items, whether new or used, are distributed free of cost to promising young cricketers in Guyana, prioritizing skills, discipline, and education. Talent identification is conducted nationwide, with club leaders aiding in the process.
Progressive and well-managed cricket clubs with youth programs are also supported.
Appreciation is extended to numerous individuals and organizations for their contributions, including West Indian Sports Complex, Option Group of USA, and various personal donors.
The media’s role in promoting the initiative is also acknowledged, with distribution efforts set to continue.
