Kaieteur News – Looking to make a meaningful impact in the different categories of the creative industry, not just here in Guyana, but across the world, is Secondary Academic Teacher, Shamola Ally, popularly known as Mola, the pioneer of a small business called ‘Top Tier’.
‘Top Tier’ which is popularly known at the moment for its customisation of crocs was established on the 15th of October, 2021.
In a recent interview with this magazine, Mola shared that ‘Top Tier’ though it is recognised for customizing crocs, will soon be known for fashion, beauty and make-up, modelling and promotional content just to name a few.
When asked what inspired her to start this venture, she explained that ever since she was younger, she always wanted to be an entrepreneur and own a business, however, at the time she was not sure what category she wanted it to be in. “All I knew is that I wanted make it, make my family proud and take care of them,” she mentioned.
Mola went onto explain that growing up, she always had a creative side. “Having an urge to do everything, wanting to explore every skill and perfect it, that’s exactly what I did,” through the establishment of this business, she noted.
‘Top Tier’ she said started with her love and deep passion for fashion, but it did not stop there, it grew into much more she related. Just to know a little about Mola, she is not only a teacher, she is a certified beginner nail tech, business owner, influencer, model, promoter, brand ambassador for several businesses and so much more. These are just some of the categories which will soon fall under her ‘Top Tier’ brand.
Almost close to two years of being in the business arena, she said the support has been amazing and encouraging. “I have a very small circle when it comes to my support system, however the level of support they provide it values 100 percent,” she described.
The young woman noted however that just like any other small emerging businesses, there were challenges. In her case, her business faced the challenge of a lack of financial support.
“When I first started my business I had an issue with financial support however a quote from my dad always live within me. That is ‘One step at a time once you start and stay consistent you will finish,’ and that’s exactly what I did,” she shared.
Being faced with this challenge, Mola mentioned that she then started to save enough financially so as to invest properly in her business, which eventually worked out for her.
Another challenge she dealt with was her support system. She shared that she always thought that because she did not have a lot of close friends or family members other than her parents to help her, she would not be successful. “Because I saw that all the successful entrepreneurs had a team.”
She added, “But what I didn’t realize is that I already had a team. It’s small but they work wonders for me. A team of four pulled off a job for a team of 10. That’s what it felt like. My parents support me as well as my partner play big roles in my business.”
With a lot to unlock for ‘Top Tier’, Mola related that the long term goal really is for her business to venture off into every area in the creative industry not only in Guyana but worldwide.
Stating that young entrepreneurs are crucial towards the development of our economy and society, our featured entrepreneur is of the belief that to boost small businesses locally is for there to be more exposure for them.
“Honestly I think that there should be more exhibitions for small businesses and it should be promoted more on a higher scale,” she mentioned.
She added too that the relevant authorities should set up a system that can help small business owner build on their business plans. All this and much more can be done to boost small businesses more in our society.
