(Kaieteur News) – A devastating two-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon has resulted in the death of three young males, inclusive of a 16-year-old student, all of whom resided in Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six.
The incident, which reportedly occurred at approximately 16:00h, claimed the lives of Priyas Mursalin, 23, of Chesney Front; Porshatam Hoolasia, 16, of Haswell, Port Mourant, and Ameer Khan, 19, of John, Port Mourant.
Reports indicate that the vehicle in which the three males were occupants crashed into a Toyota Harrier on the Maida Public Road, Corentyne.
They were said to be driving at a fast rate, and were reportedly overtaking two vehicles but failed to avoid eventual collision with the Toyota Harrier that was driving in the opposite direction.
Police in Region Six have confirmed that motorcar #PAL 9292, which is owned by a Georgetown-based church, was at the time driven by a 44-year-old man of Corentyne, Berbice, while #PLL 4312 was driven by the now deceased Khan, but is owned by an Albion, Corentyne resident, Arvindra Arjune.
Based on investigations, motorcar PAL #9292 was headed west along the southern driving lane, while the vehicle transporting the three young men was proceeding east, was reportedly speeding.
Khan unfortunately entered the path of #PAL 9292, leading to a head-on collision on the southern driving lane, as a result of which, the vehicle with the trio slammed into a Guyana Power and Light (GPL) pole on the southern side of the road.
The drivers and occupants sustained critical injuries about their bodies, and were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where Khan, Mursalin, and Hoolasia were all pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies were taken to a funeral parlour where they await a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the Harrier was treated at the hospital and sent away. He was detained by police for a short period, during which a breathalyzer test was done. His results indicated no trace of alcohol.
Hoolasia, who was seated in the front seat of the other car, was a student of J.C Chandisingh Secondary School. He celebrated his sixteenth birthday only three days ago.
