Education Ministry seeks contractor to build new St. Sidwell’s Primary
(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Education is currently seeking a contractor to build a new St. Sidwell’s Primary School in Georgetown.
This is according to a recent invitation for bids issued by the ministry which states that bids are expected to open on June 25, 2026 at the National Procurement and Tender Administration (NPTAB) office.
In addition to the St. Sidwell’s Primary School project, the ministry is seeking a contractor to construct a teaching block at F.E Pollard Primary School, and construct the JE Burnham Nursery School.

The St. Sidwell’s Primary School is an old wooden two-storey building located on the corners of Hadfield Street and Vlissengen Road, Lodge. It is situated next door to the St. Sidwell’s Anglican Church.
The construction of this school and other projects form part of the $24 billion which was set aside in this year’s budget for the sector’s infrastructural needs.
During the presentation of the national budget, Senior Minister with the responsibility of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh stated that over the last five years, his government began the construction of more than 100 new schools across the nursery, primary and secondary levels, and maintenance and rehabilitation of schools countrywide. During that period, some 34 primary schools were constructed, and rehabilitation and expansion works were done on 61 primary schools.
It was reported in the media that the Education Ministry has been constructing and rebuilding schools, to include improved amenities, create more space for learners, and ensure that all children are safe and are in an environment conducive to learning.
Having been declared by the United Nations (UN) as having achieved universal primary education in the country, former Education Minister, Priya Manickhand had stated that as communities evolve and the population increases, the government would continue to build schools to cater for the children.
