Kaieteur News – Left-handed opening batsman Dhanraj Singh slammed a brilliant 153 to inspire Hibernia Strikers to a comfortable 48-run win over Sunrisers Masters last Sunday in the continuation of the Essequibo Softball Cricket League’s (ESCL) over-40, T20 competition.
At Zorg Beach, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Singh plundered 14 sixes and seven fours as Hibernia Strikes raced to a formidable 253-6 from the 20-overs. Sunrisers Masters, in reply, were all out for 205 in the 16th over.
Apart from Singh, Sidique Ramjohn made 41 as Shivsankar Ramjohn grabbed 2-37 from his maximum four overs.
For Sunrisers, Avinash Narine struck a fighting 69 and 30 from Bissoon as Ramkissoon Seeram snatched 4-35 off four overs.
At the same venue, Invaders Masters beat Devonshire Castle Sports Club by a convincing seven-wicket margin.
Devonshire Castle batted first and only managed an inadequate 180-9 from the allotment of 20-overs while Invaders, the former champion, surpassed the target in the 15th over.
Experienced batsman Fazeer Khan led the way with 68 and Gopaul Deen also with 68.
For Devonshire Castle, Latchman Singh and Wayne Moore scored 43 and 26 respectively.
Davanand Madho captured 4-24 from four impressive overs and Deen proved his all-round capability by supporting with 2-19 also from four overs.
In the other fixture, reigning champion Caribbean Cricket Club 2 got a walk-over from Queenstown Tigers.
However, the action is set to continue this weekend with three matches.
Devonshire Castle will clash with Queenstown Tigers at Queenstown facility while Invaders Masters and Sunrisers Masters will meet up at Airy Hall ground and Caribbean Cricket Club 2 will take on Hibernia Strikers at the same venue.
