Kaieteur News – ‘Golden Jaguar’ Neil Danns has been signed by Connah’s Quay Nomads Football Club, a Welsh professional football club based in Connah’s Quay, Flintshire and current champions. The 38 year-old Danns, whose move is subject to international clearance has expressed delight at being given the opportunity to play even at this matured age for a side that would have featured at the Champions League at the start of this season.
“It feels brilliant to be given the opportunity to play professional football again. The club is a full time club so, plenty of hard training but I am really happy to be given eth opportunity at this age, it’s brilliant.”
Midfielder Danns who has made over 400 appearances in the Football League, coupled with his international experience as a ‘Golden Jaguar’ said that his pure love for the game is what keeps him going.
“Anyone who watches me play concedes that I still have the enthusiasm that I had when I was a youngster. This, obviously filled with passion, helps me to keep going and keep myself in good condition and always ready. So to be given the opportunity to carry on playing is absolutely unbelievable and like everyone says, age is nothing but a number.”
Danns, who commenced his at Blackburn Rovers during which time he had loan spells at Blackpool, Hartlepool United and Colchester United believes that as long as a player performs well enough, that player should be given the chance to continue playing.
He then was a more permanent fixture at Colchester United from 2004 m- 2006 after which he joined Birmingham City. The Guyana international made 103 appearances for Crystal Palace, whilst also having permanent spells in the Football League at Leicester City, Bolton, Bury and Tranmere Rovers.
Most recently, Danns has played for the likes of Radcliffe, Halifax Town and was on trial at Chorley, where the Nomads spotted him after their season was curtailed. He donned national colours in March 2015 and assisted in both goals in Guyana’s 2-0 victory over Grenada.
Also a part of Guyana’s historic debut at the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup where he inked his name in the history books netting all three of this nations goals in the competition, Danns said he is fit and ready having been pretty active, to come and represent Guyana for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers later this month.
“Like I said, I am fully fit and ready to go. I am fully committed to doing so, so hopefully I am given that chance.”
