The newly elected president of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) Levi Nedd attended and successfully participated in The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball, (FIVB) 36th World congress held in Cancun, Mexico from 13th to 17th November.

GVF President Levi Nedd poses with FIVB Development Commission President, Mustaque Mohammed at the World Congress in Cancun Mexico.
Nedd who was attending his first FIVB world Congress was among delegates from some 198 other countries that participated in the event. The experienced Volleyball campaigner was able to participate meaningfully along with his South American Federation Confederation (CSV) colleagues, where fixtures were drawn for both males and females in the Olympic beach qualifiers to be held in Argentina.
At the congress Nedd participated meaningfully in the ratification of various rules of volleyball and report and made presentations to the various committees and commissions. Nedd who has been involved in volleyball for over four decades was able to make representation for the development of volleyball in Guyana.
Speaking to the media the former Guyana Captain declared that the experience was great and the congress served as a catalyst, which he will use to move Guyana’s volleyball forward. He stated that one of the highlight of the congress was to sensitize countries that beach volleyball is taking the world stage by storm. He mentioned that the president of the FIVB Dr. Ary S. Graça of Brazil is urging countries to forever work with young people for the future development of volleyball the world over. The FIVB motto is “ACT AS ONE”.
Nedd upon his return home has begun putting systems in place to move the game forward. He is making contact with the various associations and National Sports Commission in an effort to sensitize them in preparation of what is to be achieved as a volleyball family in 2019. He also noted that much emphasis will be placed on the schools programme and expects vacant executive positions on the GVF to be filled before the end of 2018.
In an effort to fast track things and make a new start for 2019, the president is calling on the volleyball family to get down to brass tacks and be a part of effective change and development of volleyball in Guyana.
He is taking the opportunity to call on all interested for their unstinted support. (Samuel Whyte)
