Veteran Ian Gouveia, who had not been able to participate in a Club Tournament until last Sunday, took the field by storm to emerge June month’s champion Net golfer as well as Best Gross winner at the Lusignan Golf Club, 6th Club Tournament for 2018. Challenged only by President, Aleem Hussain, in his Gross performance (they tied for 83 but Ian had a better back 9), Ian was the unchallenged winner in the Net scores with a clear 3-point lead over the 2nd place winner.
The course was damp in some places because of the weather, but the spirits of the 17 who braved those conditions were undaunted as they strove for mastery. It was a refreshing tournament especially as other golfers who had not been in tournaments for a season were delighted to be able to participate.
Winning scores and performances at the end of the tournament were as follows: Nearest The Pin – Mahendra Bhagwandin (winner of the previous Sunday’s Grand Coastal Tournament); Best Gross – Ian Gouveia; Best Net 1st place – Ian Gouveia 67/16; 2nd – Rabindranath Persaud 70/17; 3rd – Aleem Hussain 72/11; 4th – Patanjalee Persaud 73/18. Others who placed in the top 9 were:- Satrohan Tiwari 73/14; David Harry 76/12; Mike Mangal 77/8; Bridgelall Harry 77/16 and Patrick Prashad 78/9.
President Aleem Hussain congratulated the winners and expressed his delight that they were determined to play a good game of golf despite the weather conditions. He thanked the groundsmen for the sterling work they are doing to ensure the course was playable. Standing in for Captain Chatterpaul Deo, golfer Dr Joaan Deo assisted with the distribution of prizes.
