Edward B. Beharry & Company inked a $1.5million sponsorship deal with Youth Guyana Basketball Guyana (YBG) yesterday at the company’s Charlotte Street office in a move that will see the company supporting YBG’s National Schools’ Basketball Festival (NSBF) for the 10th consecutive year.
At the handing over ceremony yesterday morning, Reena Williams, Brand Manager for Beharry’s Chico Sweets, posited that the company is extremely overjoyed to be onboard with the initiative which has been well organised since its inception in 2006.
Co-Director of YBG, Chris Bowman, expressed thanks to Beharry who he believes sponsors the tournament from the heart. “Their (Edward B. Beharry & Company) sponsorship has contributed to the overall development of basketball at all levels in Guyana,” Bowman further explained.
Meanwhile, Monique Tiwary, Indi and Champion Brands Manager, noted that YBG and the NSBF has, “Allowed us (the company) the ability to demonstrate our corporate and social responsibility to the people of Guyana. We promote sports which we believe is a vital part of education and as we are in our 10th consecutive year of sponsorship, we look forward to many more years with YBG.”
Reyad Boyce, Co-Director of YBG, shared that the, “NSBF programme has grown and we have increased the amount of schools participating throughout the years. Additional sponsors are encouraged to get on board for the tournament which will see two schools from the West Demerara being added into the festival.”
Those two new schools are Leonora and West Demerara Secondary’s. The grand launch of the NSBF will take place on March 11. Meanwhile, tomorrow and Sunday will witness a YBG organised two-day Fives Challenge Series at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) that will tip off at 10:00hrs tomorrow and 13:00hrs on Sunday.
Fives Challenge Series is an exciting school basketball event that will tip off the YBG 2018 calendar. The event is open to Under-14, 16, 19, Girls and Past Students Best School Fives countrywide.
The event will also feature a number of novelty activities for players and fans to showcase their dribbling, shooting and passing skills for prizes. For the first time, the event will feature a slam dunk competition. (Calvin Chapman)
