Police’ Kwesi Mickle registered the highest individual score of the 2011 Memorex/Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 cricket competition when he slammed 130 to see his side to an outright win over Defenders, the win secured Police’ place in the quarterfinals as they ended the preliminary round as runners-up to Young Warriors in Zone B.
Playing at the Berbice High School Ground, Defenders were defenceless against Police who battered them by a massive 141 runs.
Defenders, winning the toss and batting first, were bowled out for 99 in their first innings. Bowling for Police, Totaram Latchminarine grabbed 4 for 21, Kwesi Mickle 2 for 15 and Leon Andrews 2 for 17.
Police responded with 258 all out with Mickle 130, Leon Andrews 34 and Mark Braithwaite 22.
Facing a first innings deficit of 159, Defenders feared even worse than their first innings being rattled out for a meagre 18.
Doing the damage for Police were Andrews with 4 for 8, Latchminarine 3 for 10 (match bowling figures of 7 for 31) and Elan Schultz 2 for 0.
No.45 contesting Zone D gained a walkover from Big Star to end the preliminaries as the winner of the Zone and a place in the quarterfinals.
