– Night of remembrance planned for tomorrow night
As tributes continue to pour in on the sudden passing of former national netball player and Coach Shondel Samaroo, the Executive and general membership of the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) became the latest entity to express condolences to her family and friends.
Here below is a copy of the message sent by President of the GNA on behalf of the executive:
Farewell Shondel Samaroo and Thank you-
The expression of heartfelt gratitude for a person whose selfless contribution demands laudable mention and reward is always a sobering exercise. When the Guyana Netball Association heard of the sudden passing of Shondel Samaroo on April 19, we were deeply overwhelmed with sorrow and gripped in disbelief. Shondel fell within that extraordinary category of persons who worked assiduously to enhance our Guyanese presence on the world stage in the field of sport. Her eager ambition and drive in this regard is easily noted in her initiative to form a netball club of her own in 2010, The Eagle Netball Club. Shondel’s contribution to the Guyana Netball Association took flight in 2006 where she later held the posts of Vice President in 2009 and Secretary in 2011.
In both capacities, Shondel consistently aspired to elevate the standard of a disciplined and excellent work ethic amongst the Executive and all members of the Association. At the recently concluded Caribbean Under 16 Netball Championships held in April 2011 in the island of St. Kitts, Shondel as manager of the team with effortless ease was able to oversee fund-raising activities whilst at the same address the logistic and other administrative affairs necessary for the welfare of the netball team.
She is remembered by the Executive of the Association as a loyal, dedicated, competent, humble, amicable and harmonious team player. Indeed Shondel personified that timeless adage, “Dedication is not what others expect of you, it is what you can give to others.”
The Executive and general membership of the Netball Association extend our condolences to the relatives, family, co-workers and friends of Shondel Samaroo.
At the same time, we offer our profound gratitude to Shondel’s family for affording us the benefit of her time, invaluable contribution and vision towards the sport of netball for the Association and our country. Meanwhile, the GNA has planned a night of remembrance for the life and work of Ms Samaroo tomorrow (Easter Monday), at the National Gymnasium.
A formal programme is planned from 21:00-22:00 hrs in recognition of her contribution to Netball.
