Twenty-five-year-old Test opener Ryan Ramdass hit a polished half-century
Sauid Drepaul
and got support from former Guyana under-19 skipper Sauid Drepaul to lead host Everest to a 58-run win against the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Sunday in their Pepsi Cup 40-overs first division cricket competition.
The right-handed Ramdass who made 23 and three in his lone Test match three years ago in Sri Lanka, has been troubled by various injuries since his dominant 2005 regional first-class season in which he scored all three of his first-class centuries that landed him a place in the West Indies ‘A’ team and is hoping for a Guyana senior team re-call next year.
Ramdass has scored 1,042 runs from 21 first-class matches since his debut against Kenya for the West Indies ‘B’ team in 2004.
Ramdass, who recently retuned from the USA, stroked the ball with confidence as Everest reached 232-6 off their 40 overs and then led by 3-33 from 2007 Guyana under-19 leg-spinner Troy Gonsalves, restricted the Soldiers to 174-6 when their overs expired on the slow track.
Drepaul, an all-rounder who bowls left-arm spin, contributed 55 as national under-19 all-rounder Dellon Heyliger took 2-30.
But although the versatile Keith Fraser, who is also one of the countries’ leading football goalkeepers, scored 29, GDF were never really in the hunt. (Sean Devers)
