Kaieteur Sports – Fresh off an outstanding showing in the Doubles competition, Team Guyana strengthened its grip on the 2026 Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Junior Championship on Tuesday, producing another commanding display in the Team’s Event as they edged closer to successfully defending its regional crown.
The Guyanese entered the team competition riding the momentum of Monday’s doubles success, where Kaylee Lowe and Emily Fung-A-Fat captured the Girls’ Doubles title, while Shiloh Asregado and Egan Bulkan also secured gold in the Boys’ Doubles. The team also added a Mixed Doubles bronze medal to its growing collection, after a seven-medal haul during the Singles phase.
With the championship entering its decisive stages, Guyana sit comfortably atop the standings, holding an 18-point advantage over nearest rivals Barbados in the race for the overall junior title.
The defending champions continued to pile on valuable points during the fifth day of competition, with the girls producing four victories while the boys contributed three wins to keep Guyana in contention.
The boys enjoyed mixed fortunes in their opening fixtures, claiming three wins from six matches. Ethan Bulkan spearheaded the charge with a ruthless straight-games victory over Barbados’ Ethan Cyrus, cruising to an 11-6, 11-0, 11-1 triumph.
Shiloh Asregado and Joshua Verwey also delivered important victories, defeating Caden Collymore and Jai Shepherd respectively in separate best-of-three encounters to roll ahead. However, Zion Hickerson, Jude Gobin and Justin Ten Pow were unable to add to the tally after suffering defeats in their respective matches.
The girls, meanwhile, were virtually unstoppable, overpowering the British Virgin Islands 4-1 to secure another crucial team victory and book their place in the championship pool.
Alexis Arjoon once again led from the front, continuing her impressive tournament with a clinical 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 victory over Leela Mellor. Displaying sharp movement, excellent court awareness and precise shot-making, Arjoon set the tone for another dominant Guyanese performance.
Zoey McDonald was equally convincing, overwhelming Talia Evans in straight games, 11-1, 11-3, 11-3, to hand Guyana its second point.
Tehani Munroe then produced one of the day’s most emphatic performances, dismantling Ivy Rose Butler 11-2, 11-1, 11-0 in a one-sided contest.
Rylee Rodrigues and Malia Maikoo completed Guyana’s day five performance, both being awarded victories by default, as the defending champions continued their relentless march towards retaining the CASA Junior Championship title.
More action was billed for later in the day (Tuesday) as the Boys’ Team took on the Jamaicans.
