Kaieteur Sports – Slingerz Racing Stable is set to add another major attraction to the 18th staging of the Guyana Cup, with its prized Brazilian-bred campaigner Olympic National confirmed to make his Guyana racing debut on August 23 at the Rising Sun Turf Club.
The six-year-old stallion, who races under the Slingerz Racing Stable Brazil branch, is one of the stable’s most successful and highly regarded horses and arrives in Guyana boasting an impressive résumé from the competitive racing circuit in Rio de Janeiro.
His appearance is expected to add significant quality to a Guyana Cup programme offering 14 races and more than $66 million in cash and prizes, with Slingerz Racing Stable owner Javed Ali making no secret of his excitement about seeing Olympic National compete on local soil.
Bred by Haras Regina, Olympic National is a son of Camelot Kitten, out of Olympic Havana, by Dubai Dust.
The powerful chestnut has established a reputation in Brazil for his pace, stamina and ability to produce daring performances over longer distances.
His credentials were further enhanced last November when he captured the Much Better Classic, a Listed race contested over 1,900 metres on dirt in Rio de Janeiro.
The victory came in the second race on the card and underscored his ability to handle demanding distances while competing against high-level opposition.
Earlier this year, Olympic National also finished fourth in the Grand Prix City Hall of Rio de Janeiro (G3) at the prestigious Gávea Hippodrome, further demonstrating the level at which he has been competing.
Ali believes Olympic National’s arrival represents more than simply another entry for the Guyana Cup, pointing out that it Slingerz Racing Stable’s commitment to help enhance horse racing in Guyana.
Adding another layer of significance to the Guyana Cup will be the presence of Olympic Kremlin, who will make his final competitive appearance before retirement.
Slingerz Racing announced last week that Olympic Kremlin, the 2024 Guyana Cup champion, will be retired following the August 23 meeting.
For Slingerz Racing, however, sentiment will quickly give way to business when the gates open.
The stable surrendered the Guyana Cup crown in 2025 after being unable to defend its title, and Ali said reclaiming the prestigious trophy remains a major objective.
With Olympic National bringing proven Brazilian form, Olympic Kremlin making his final appearance and a massive purse at stake, Slingerz Racing Stable will enter the Guyana Cup with a formidable combination of ambition, quality and experience.
