Ireland secure narrow, 1-run victory over West Indies via DLS

Kaieteur Sports – A captain’s knock backed by some decent bowling pushed Ireland to a narrow 1-run win by virtue of the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern (DLS) method following yesterday’s rain-plagued match at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin.

With the ongoing Tri-Nation T20I series, serving as crucial preparation for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, teams will be looking to gain as much momentum as possible ahead of the spectacle.

Captain Orla Prendergast smashed a quick fifty during her team’s narrow win against the Windies.

Suffering their first loss after some amazing wins, Windies, after winning the toss chose to bat first but encountered stiff resistance from a disciplined Irish bowling attack, only managing 141 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Only middle-order batter Jannillea Glasgow got going with 36 off 26 deliveries featuring six boundaries, as pacer Ava Canning continued her form with returns of 2 for 11 across her 4 overs.

Ireland’s response was entirely dictated by a spectacular captain’s knock from Orla Prendergast, who smashed 71 runs off just 46 balls with 11 fours and a six before rain interrupted play in the 15th over.

Ireland Women were solidly placed on 99 for 5 after 14.1 overs, with calculations putting them one run ahead of the adjusted DLS par score, which helped seal a historic victory at home.

West Indies will play Pakistan in tomorrow’s match at Castle Avenue in Dublin, when action continues.
