Kaieteur Sports – The Trophy Stall Westside Golf Course 2026 Golf Challenge attracted dozens of new golfers across the men’s, women’s and junior divisions on Saturday, highlighting the continued growth of the sport in Guyana.
The ladies’ division produced the day’s most exciting competition, with several closely contested playoffs needed before champions were finally determined. West Indies, Guyana and Amazon Warriors women’s cricketer Shabika Gajnabi demonstrated her talents extend beyond the cricket pitch and performed extremely well, before losing in an exciting playoff for first place!

Sunday’s GGA/Trophy Stall tournament featured a large turnout by some of the local pros and newbie alike.
The event also drew a large and enthusiastic crowd of spectators. Among those in attendance were former Minister of Labour Hamilton Green and popular YouTuber Too Cool, who joined fans in cheering on the competitors and later assisted with the presentation of trophies and prizes.
President of the Guyana Golf Association, Aleem Hussain, thanked Trophy Stall proprietor Ramesh Sunich for his unwavering support of golf development in Guyana. Hussain noted that Trophy Stall has consistently partnered with the association to introduce hundreds of new players to the game through community tournaments and grassroots initiatives.
He also congratulated all participants, particularly the many first-time golfers who embraced the challenge, and encouraged them to continue developing their skills by taking advantage of the regular coaching sessions and competitions hosted at the Westside Golf Course.
The next Westside Novice golf challenge will be announced shortly, with new and returning players encouraged to participate.
