Kaieteur Sports – The Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) National Schools Basketball Festival (NSBF) regionals continued in Region 6 on Tuesday, delivering four thrilling encounters in the Ancient Regional Tournament as teams battled for playoff supremacy.
The evening tipped off with the lone girls’ matchup, where Vryman’s Erven Secondary and Tutorial High played to a 16-16 draw in a tightly contested affair. Despite the deadlock, individual brilliance defined the game. Venica Mayers was unstoppable for Vryman’s, accounting for all 16 of her team’s points in a remarkable solo effort. On the opposing side, Jelicia Myers kept Tutorial High competitive with 14 points and four rebounds, ensuring her team stayed level until the final whistle.
In the boys’ division, Skeldon Line Path asserted their dominance with a convincing 23-10 win over JC Chandisingh Secondary. Dequone Ross led the charge with nine points and three rebounds, while Daniel Duke provided solid support with seven points and four rebounds. Their combined efforts secured a comfortable 13-point victory.
The third game of the evening saw Berbice Educational Institute edge Vryman’s Erven Secondary 16-8, thanks to a standout performance from Kirton Byron. Byron sliced through the defence with ease, finishing with nine points and three rebounds to guide his team to victory.

Berbice High School delivered the most emphatic performance of the night in a one-sided clash against New Amsterdam Secondary. Avion Kesney was in sensational form, pouring in 21 points and adding three rebounds in a dominant 54-11 win. Kesney’s control at point guard proved decisive, while Shamron Jafer contributed 12 points and Gettson Matteson chipped in with eight to round off the commanding display.
With wins secured by Skeldon Line Path, Berbice Educational Institute, and Berbice High School, the competition is intensifying as teams push deeper into the playoffs.
The regional tournament is supported by key sponsors including Edward B. Beharry Ltd., G-Boats Inc., the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Ltd.
