Kaieteur Sports – As Guyanese alike celebrate the milestone of arguably one of the country’s top boxers in, Elton Dharry, who this past week on local soil etched his name into the record books by claiming the IBO Super Bantamweight World Title, the fighter celebrated his victory by spending a bit of his time at the West Side Golf Course.

New IBO Super Bantamweight Champion Elton Dharry flanked his team, family and friends shows off his new title at the West Side Golf Course following Tuesday’s celebratory event.
Nexgen Academy head and president of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA), Aleem Hussain who is a close friend and sometimes a key part of the boxer’s management team, welcomed Dharry along with friends, family, members of his team while keeping gates open to Guyanese who wanted a chance to share a light moment with the star.
Guyana is celebrating a historic sporting achievement as Dharry won the IBO Super Bantamweight World Title at the remarkable age of 40, showing that sometimes if not most, experience outweighs youth as he out-boxed the 22 year-old Tanzanian lion, Salmin Kassim; who put up a brave fight but in the end was no match for the wily veteran.
Tuesday’s event was headlined by the presence of the new champ, who spent time with those present, still marinating a cool demeanor which has been a hallmark part of his identity outside of the squared circle.
Hussain lauded the pugilist for his achievements and for continuing to carry and proudly represent the Golden Arrowhead regardless of the magnitude of a fight. He believed that Dharry should be celebrated more locally as he remains one of Guyana’s premier athletes.
For more than 12 years, Dharry has stood among the world’s elite, consistently proving his class on the international stage and carrying Guyana’s Golden Arrowhead proudly into battle. His longevity, discipline and sustained excellence has firmly established him as one of the greatest sporting ambassadors this nation has ever produced, while continuing to prove that Guyanese boxers are among the very best in the world.
Such has been the magnitude of his achievement that Gleason’s Gym, one of the most famous boxing gyms in the world, where he trains has already proudly displayed banners celebrating his world title triumph. Recognition from such a globally respected boxing institution underscores the scale of Dharry’s accomplishment and further cements his place among Guyana’s greatest sporting ambassadors.
This world title victory will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of Guyanese athletes, reminding them that greatness is built through sacrifice, discipline, hard work, and an unbreakable fighting spirit. Much like the rest of Guyana, the GGA congratulates Dharry, a true champion, a proud son of Guyana and now an IBO World Champion. (Clifton Ross)
